Built inside a working campervan rental business.

The business it began in runs campervans in New Zealand, on the same three things most operators run on: a spreadsheet, an inbox and a clipboard.

Nobody set out to build a product. The time was going somewhere obvious: the same hire retyped into a spreadsheet, then an email, then a sheet of paper on a clipboard, and a certificate nobody noticed until the van was already promised to somebody.

So the missing piece was built next to the people doing the job, and they corrected it constantly. Then it went to other operators, from seven vans to over a hundred, who were asked to pull it apart.

Some of what came back was the same in every conversation. The calendar has to show the whole season at once. A van in the workshop has to be genuinely unbookable, not flagged. A document a customer reads has to carry the operator's own branding, not the software's. Some of it was one person's particular way of working, and it stayed out.
